Not that anyone really needs to know this, but the history of the Friars Club dates back to the early 1900s with the tradition of roasting a member starting in the 1940s. I’m assuming that was because of that little war that was going on and people needed some good laughs. Regardless, comedy roasts weren’t perfected until the first LaPrise Roast occurred in 1980.
Since then the LaPrise family has been performing roasts almost annually. We’ve had like 5 in 43 years. So yea, almost annually
